Potential

The project will result in high levels of efficiency, creating clear competitive advantages. Broad-gauge tracks allow for heavier trains in comparison to standard gauge railways. This means significant cost savings and a more efficient transportation system. Annual freight levels of between 16 million tons and 24 million tons are expected to be reached by 2050. The Twin City Region Vienna-Bratislava will increase in importance as a logistics center in the heart of the EU because of the expansion of the broad-gauge railway corridor. More than 33 countries in Western and Central Europe, Central Asia, Russia and the Far East will benefit economically from the planned expansion of the broad-gauge railway corridor.
